SIENNA OSTA ON THE ISSUES

Women have the right to make their own medical decisions, including reproductive rights and should have no obstacles in receiving safe healthcare and medical treatment. In addition, we need to stop state funding of the anti-abortion pregnancy centers that litter our state, as well as their misleading billboards/advertisements–which are nothing more than unethical scare tactics, used mostly upon young and uneducated women who are in a vulnerable place in life.

As a first-generation Lebanese American and the daughter of small-business owners, Sienna is a big supporter of small businesses and the entrepreneurial spirit. She will fight for programs that support small businesses within our community. Sienna will also support and propose new legislation that will provide an increase in funding for entrepreneurial (CE) continuing education courses, so as to strengthen entrepreneurs and small business owners in their endeavors.

One of Sienna's top priorities is to remedy our current plight with respect to rising home prices—through smart growth, a market-based approach, and the development of  walkable, livable and affordable living communities.

Sienna will fight for better funding for our public schools and teachers. Public schools should not be given unfunded mandates to share their budget dollars with for-profit educational entities.

Florida has always been known for its natural beauty–from the beaches to the everglades. For far too long Tallahassee has closed its eyes to global warming, sea-level rise and climate change, and now our coastal cities are impacted on a daily basis. The changes in our climate will impact our future generations and we do not want them looking back at us as fools for not paying attention after cities are underwater and the related economic and immigration impacts are their major obstacles. All future planning should take long-range environment impacts into account. We need to continue to prevent all fracking in sensitive lands, prohibit offshore and near-shore wells to protect our coastal communities and tourism economy, and pass sweeping water protection legislation in our agricultural areas, despite the lobbying power of Big Ag. We also need to re-address the needs of the Everglades watershed and send the water south again, as nature intended

Sienna is in favor of responsible gun control, specifically to involve universal background checks and closing loopholes. Too many young people in our communities are having their lives cut short. As a gun owner with a concealed carry permit, Sienna will effectively work across the aisle with Republicans, as well as with advocacy groups to promote common sense gun laws.
